$WAIFU Day Two: Golden Dog Off the List, -85%

2026-09-17 · 4 min read · By Leo Park · BigPump Blog
TL;DR
  • WAIFU main pool: price $0.000766 → $0.000114 (-85.2%), liquidity $80,420 → $31,874, 24h volume $6.26M → $364,112
  • Both warnings from Sep 16 came true: sells already beat buys in the last hour at +147%, and turnover was 77.8x
  • A verified contract did not stop the drop. A real project and a good price are two different things

On Sep 16 we wrote What is WAIFU: a garden game you can play in the browser, a contract address that matched the website character for character, and +147.25% in 24 hours, one of that day's two golden dogs. WAIFU day two: it fell off the hot list, and its main-pool price is down 85.2%.

Both of yesterday's warnings came true

Warning 1: a big green day with the last hour already reversing

In the Sep 16 snapshot WAIFU was +147.25% over 24h and +19.44% over 1h, but the last hour had 76 buys and 126 sells. Price was still rising while sells outnumbered buys by 66%. It is the same "1h reversal" pattern that preceded KERMIT's -59% on Sep 12: late in a run, a few large buys hold the price up while most trades are exits.

Warning 2: 77.8x turnover

An $80,420 pool traded $6,260,037 in a day: 77.8x turnover. When a thin pool carries that much volume, the same tokens are being passed back and forth, and nobody is holding. The thinner the pool, the harder the price falls when the flippers leave.

A graduated Pons pool, ringed by strange fee tiers

GeckoTerminal labels WAIFU's main pool as pons-v2-dex, the locked pool a token moves into after graduating from the Pons V2 bonding curve. The main pool itself is fine. The problem is around it. GeckoTerminal lists 20 pools today. Apart from the main pool and a $21,425 USDG 5% pool, all 18 others hold under $1,000, with fees all over the place: 10%, 9.88%, 8%, 4.778%, 4.38%, 4.365%, 4.32%, 4.211%, 4.111%, 3.001%, 2.991%, 2.5%, 0.9%, plus 70%, 75% and 80%.

The 70% pool was created at 00:29:13 on Sep 15, less than 4 minutes after the main pool. In the last 24 hours it saw 0 buyers and 5 sellers. Pools like this exist to catch traders who don't check the fee tier. How to spot them: today's trap-pool guide.

Any update on the website?

I reopened waifu.family on Sep 17. It is still a game portal showing $WAIFU 0x9486…641c, with no tokenomics, no roadmap and no announcements. The address still matches 0x948647a06a6422dceea3711297f82aef68ec641c at both ends, so the verification stands.

That is the main point today: a verified contract does not mean a safe price. Checking the contract protects you from fakes. It does nothing for the drawdown on a real token.

Is WAIFU still worth buying?

My call: stay out at least until unique buyers outnumber sellers again. If you bought near the top yesterday, the first job today is not averaging down. It is checking whether your position can actually be sold in the main pool, and at what slippage. Not financial advice; memecoins can go to zero.

If you are still holding WAIFU

  1. Know which pools can take your sell. The main WAIFU/WETH pool holds $31,874 and the USDG 5% pool $21,425. Everything else is under $1,000. Sell only into those two.
  2. Estimate slippage. In a rough constant-product estimate, the $31,874 pool has about $15,937 per side. Selling about $1,600 of tokens (10% of one side) pushes the price down about 17%. Split larger exits into smaller orders.
  3. Ignore the 1h bounce. DexScreener shows +12.45% on 1h but -26.85% on 6h. One green hour does not change a 24-hour structure.

The degen lesson

  1. A golden dog's second day matters more than its first. Our day-two follow-ups keep showing the same thing: on Sep 11 all three prior golden dogs fell, on Sep 14 CATGPT fell 71.5% and PAIREX 39%, and today WAIFU is down 85.2%.
  2. The 24h change is the result. The 1h buy/sell count and turnover show the process. When the process breaks, the result follows.
  3. Before buying, check recent trades on the WAIFU trade page on BigPump. If the tape is mostly a stream of small sells, don't buy the big green candle.

FAQ

Why did WAIFU drop 85%?

No single event. On-chain, buyers disappeared (3,045 → 630 unique buyers), sellers dominated (901), and with only ~$30K in the main pool that selling went straight through the price.

Was WAIFU a rug pull?

The main pool is a post-graduation locked pool, and there is no sign of liquidity being pulled in one move. Most of the liquidity drop comes from the price drop. It looks like a narrative fading, not a pool being pulled.
