The Official $LAPTOP Launched. The Copycat Is -41%
- Copycat price $0.00154569 to $0.00090692 (-41.3%), off the top 12
- Official: 9 September on Base, 1B supply, 30% founders locked six months
- 86.1% of the copycat liquidity sits in three of its twenty pools
On 7 September, Hunter Biden announced on X that $LAPTOP would launch 9 September on Base. Within an hour, 22 same-name pools appeared across four chains. The biggest one was on Robinhood Chain, at
0x76ed1e2a8fc3873fcb5c514688ca2fe8a3600b7f
.
On 8 September it sat at rank 11 on our hot board, up 2,506.49% in 24 hours, with $10.46M of volume in its main pool. We wrote that day that it was not the official token.
Today is 9 September. The official token is live. Here is what happened to the copycat.
Snapshot: 2026-09-09 00:09 UTC.
The 24-hour bill
| Metric | 2026-09-08 | 2026-09-09 | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $0.00154569 | $0.00090692 | -41.3% |
| Main pool 24h | +2,506.49% | -36.77% | — |
| Main pool liquidity | $93,799 | $74,690 | -20.4% |
| 24h volume | $10,464,051 (main pool) | $2,756,453 (20 pools combined) | -73.7% |
| Liquidity, all pools | not aggregated that day | $175,919 across 20 pools | — |
| Board rank | 11 | off the top 12 | — |
| FDV | $1,545,694 (market-cap basis) | $906,922 | -41.3% |
The main pool is LAPTOP / SGOV — quoted against a tokenized short-duration Treasury ETF — created 2026-09-07 14:50:36 UTC. Today it shows 6,610 buys against 5,813 sells, with 1,728 distinct buyers against 2,023 sellers: a 0.85 buyer/seller ratio, more sellers than buyers.
In one day: price cut by 41%, volume by 74%, and it dropped off the board entirely — all of it before the official token began trading.
What the official token actually is
Per crypto.news and The Defiant:
- Launch date 9 September 2026; chain: Base (Coinbase's Ethereum L2).
- Total supply 1 billion.
- Allocation: founders including Hunter Biden 30% (300M), locked six months and vesting over two years to September 2028; airdrops 20% (200M, two rounds); operations, listings, market-making, liquidity, charity and legal/accounting 20%; conditional burns 30% tied to 30 preset events.
- Airdrop recipients: wallets with net losses on $TRUMP, subscribers to Hunter Biden's Substack, and members of journalist Andrew Callaghan's Channel 5 mailing list.
- The reporting is explicit that the project has not disclosed how it will identify qualifying wallets, or how email subscribers map to on-chain addresses.
- On the copycats, crypto.news writes: "Dozens of copycat tokens have flooded Base, Solana, and Robinhood Chain, with the largest reaching a $1.3 million market cap before the real thing has even minted."
Search results also indicate the official token's first week on Base produced none of the volume or price action a launch of that profile would normally generate, attributed to the absence of any major centralised exchange listing, with trading confined to Base DEXs. We could not open that article directly (the site returned 403), so we cite it qualitatively and quote no figures from it.
The $TRUMP mirror
The official token airdrops to "wallets that lost money on $TRUMP." That design is itself a risk disclosure. From the same reporting:
- $TRUMP peaked at $73.43 on 2025-01-19 and traded around $2.25 in September 2026 — roughly -97%.
- 988,905 wallets were underwater, with $3.81 billion in combined losses.
A celebrity token down 97% from its high with nearly a million wallets holding $3.8B of losses is the base rate for this category, not an outlier.
Three things worth keeping
1. A contract address sits between the announcement and the token
When the news broke on 7 September, no contract address had been published. The first token calling itself LAPTOP appeared on Robinhood Chain at 14:50 UTC — ahead of some financial media coverage.
"A public figure announced a token" does not mean "this token on-chain is theirs." Until an official address is published by the project, every same-name token is unrelated to it. That rule applies to every celebrity launch and every news-driven token.
2. The copycat's life is shorter than the news cycle
The full arc: pool created 7 September 14:50 → 8 September at +2,506% with $10.46M of volume and rank 11 → 9 September at -41.3% with volume down 73.7% and off the board. From creation to collapse in under 48 hours, and the official token was only starting to trade at that point.
Its money left before the official launch. When the real news lands, a copycat does not get legitimised — it gets abandoned, because its only value was being early to a name.
3. Of its 20 pools, only three hold money
| Pool | Liquidity | 24h volume | 24h change | Created (UTC) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LAPTOP / SGOV | $74,689.72 | $2,011,800.70 | -36.77% | 2026-09-07 14:50:36 |
| LAPTOP / USDG 5.5% | $56,585.18 | $280,849.84 | -36.95% | 2026-09-07 15:18:28 |
| LAPTOP / USDG 2% | $20,169.03 | $328,143.63 | -37.48% | 2026-09-07 15:24:07 |
| LAPTOP / WETH 5% | $9,541.34 | $32,574.00 | -38.40% | 2026-09-07 14:53:57 |
| LAPTOP / USDG 9.88% | $8,579.23 | $8,534.59 | -35.64% | 2026-09-07 14:53:10 |
The top three hold $151,444 of the $175,919 total — 86.1%. The remaining 17 pools hold $24,475 between them, and several hold under $100 while recording five figures of volume: one LAPTOP/USDG 1% pool holds $83.76 and recorded $43,445.93 of 24h volume. You do not get out of a pool like that.
How not to be exit liquidity on the next one
- No official address published means no official token. Get the address from the project's own X account or website — never by searching the name in an aggregator.
- Check the pool creation timestamp. A pool created before or simultaneously with the announcement is not official. This one was created at 14:50:36 UTC, essentially with the news.
- Sanity-check the quote asset. An official launch does not debut on an unrelated chain quoted against a tokenized Treasury ETF.
- Check liquidity concentration. Twenty pools, 86% of liquidity in three, the rest holding tens to hundreds of dollars — that is the signature of a front-run token.
- Put these numbers on one screen on the BigPump trading page instead of across four sites.
FAQ
Can the Robinhood Chain $LAPTOP still be traded?
It trades, but it is unrelated to the official project. Main pool liquidity $74,690, 24h -36.77%, buyer/seller ratio 0.85. Nothing on-chain supports a bullish read.
What is the official $LAPTOP contract address?
Search results surfaced a Base address, but we could not open the source article to verify it (403), so we do not list it here. Use only the address published by Hunter Biden's official X account or the project site. That caution is the whole point of this piece.
Could the copycat be adopted as official?
There is no mechanism by which a third-party-deployed contract becomes an official token. Its only premium was being early, and the data shows that premium evaporating: volume -73.7%, off the board.
Why did Robinhood Chain host the biggest copycat?
Pool creation is cheap, gas is near zero (defiprime reports the 90-day gas subsidy expires around early October), and there is a deep menu of tokenized stocks and bonds available as quote assets. Everything that makes the chain attractive to builders also makes it attractive to front-runners.
How do I find these tokens early instead of last?
Watch new listings and age. Today's ten new tokens are all 0 hours old with zero 24h volume and $56,675 of combined liquidity. Read the chart and trades, or launch your own — BigPump's curve phase charges 1%, graduates at 4 ETH, and burns the LP. Mechanics in the docs.
